About

Lead Adviser

Lead Adviser takes learning to a whole new level in the profession of financial advice. Developed over the last 20 years to evolve traditional financial advice into a model that elevates advisers to the role of Family CFO and places the client front and centre of the advice process.

What Advisers Think

“The feeling in the room after the two days was very energised. There was a mix of very experienced advisers, and a lot of the feedback was that this was the best course they have been on, probably for its tangible effects that can be implemented from tomorrow”

Peter Connolly CFP, BCOM, MComm FP, DFP, SSA

Feedback from

Our May 2022 event

I really enjoyed the new way of thinking surrounding how clients want to receive advice, challenging my current thinking.
The presentations were great and provided a great framework for moving our business forward over the next 12 months.
I liked the focus on how the lead adviser framework can help to future proof more traditional wealth management practices and how it can create time to concentrate on distribution.
I liked the 10, 3 Now framework, the annual review template, the practical and interactive nature of the course and being forced to implement the same day.
Our goal was to challenge the way we do things currently and explore ways to grow and better improve our value. I think the training did this and have given us lots to think about and the tools to implement all or part of what we learned.

Where it all began

Our Story

If you cast your mind as far back as the late ’90s in financial advice, you’ll find yourself in a world focused on products and institutions. It was at this time Scott Fitzpatrick discovered that if he replaced the typical one-hour product sales meeting with clients, in favour of understanding what they really wanted out of life; the outcome was far superior for all.

John Woodley, also an adviser at the time with an integrated advice, accounting and investment firm, bought into the concept too.

They started focusing on what clients wanted to achieve, helping them get financially well organised, helping them get all areas of life and business well organised. This led to the development of a number of important frameworks. Including the Best of Breed team with the financial adviser acting as the Family CFO managing the entire family balance sheet and the client, front and centre, as the CEO. With this new Lead Adviser model, they no longer sold products or performance. Nor did they accept commissions or rebates. Clients were happier with the new level of professional service, akin to how lawyers or accountants operate.

To completely break away from product-centricity, John and Scott built the business based on professional, fee-for-service principles. After a successful number of years, the new model gained attention by reputation from other advisers and the Lead Adviser coaching program was born. The first cohort of alumni invested significantly to learn the revolutionary frameworks such as the 10-3-NOW and Four L’s, and to this day those advisers are still part of the community. Partnership, growth and community are core parts of the philosophy of a Lead Adviser approach. People who take part in the coaching program or the multiple partnership opportunities are all engaging in the shared vision to help elevate advice to a profession so as to enrich the lives of others.
